Missing

When you're an exchange student, you expect to miss stuff from home, but it's not until you actually leave and go to your host country, that you realise exactly how much you love and miss them when they're gone. On top of that there are a lot of things, which you didn't even think twice about before, that you miss (a lot) when they're gone. It's a very learning experience.
This post is definitely not because I'm sad and want to go home, but just because I need to write all these things down somewhere, and I thought it might be helpful for future exchange students (or just people, who are interested).

I miss...

... my family
... gaming with my brothers
... taking care of  my nieces and nephews
... spending entire evenings with my mother watching tv while being on both of our computers
... always having the house filled with people
... my mooms cooking
... listening to my brothers weird stories and conversations
... the danish food (remoulade, brun sovs, tarteletter, frikadeller, flødekartofler, agurkesalat, hakkebøf med bløde løg, millionbøf, kartoffelsalat, I could keep going forever)
... the danish cakes (æblekage, lagkage, kanelsnegle, hindbærsnitter, fastalavnsboller)

... my friends back in Denmark (many of which is not included in the collage - sorry!)
... going to the park and taking random pictures with Isabella and Sofie
... going out for dinner with everyone and having so much fun
... being jumped at from a very excited Isabella when we meet after several months of not seeing each other
... going to "Falitten" with Sofie for the most amazing chips ever
... having crazy SingStar competitions with everyone
... being able to host house parties
... not having to worry about breaking the exchange-student rules
... never being lost for words, because you have a big vocabulary in the language you speak
... knowing where everything is in the house
... the rain (yes I actually miss the rain, it's much nicer in Denmark for some reason)
... my pets (especially my little, fat cat Bimmer)
... coming home to a house full of cats (it's so lonely coming home to an empty house)
... going to Copenhagen every second weekend to visit my father
... the kebab-shops - they're are everywhere in Denmark
... kebab/salat-pizza
... "Strøget" - shopping street
... actually knowing what my phone number is
... not being so damn tired all the time
... not having to think about leaving everything in a few months
... not having to say so many goodbyes

But even though I miss all these things, I know I'll get back to them in a few months and that's why I'm not sad or upset about it at all. The thing I get sad about, is thinking about the things here in Scotland, that I'll miss when I go home. Those are the things, I'll probably never experience again.

I will miss...

... everyone. My friends, my hostfamily, everyone around me.
... getting new friends constantly
... the school (and everyone in it)
... wearing school uniform
... only having 3 subjects in school
... spending so much time in art&design
... doing anything but art in art&design
... having Advanced Higher English (and everyone in my English class!)
... having weird, long talks about nothing with Mr. Giblin
... not having to take school too seriously
... always having an excuse for doing something wrong ("I'm an exchange student, that's how we do it in my country!")
... taking the school bus to school
... Poundland
... the many fireworks-displays
... going randomly to Edinburgh, even though the trip there is 45 minutes
... the restaurants (Nandos,
Frankie&Benny's, Subway and many others)
... spending way too much money in Starbucks
... having milkshakes at the "The Black Medicine" coffee place
... constantly finding new places to eat and visit
... Edinburgh during Christmas
... waking up on the 25th of December to presents
... being constantly amused over the weird Scottish slang and expressions ("got on like a house on fire" - like, what the hell!)
... learning new things all the time (and forgetting them all the time)
... the ceilidths (Scottish dancing)
... my room (it's actually pretty cool having a bunk bed)
... the many, many, many sleepovers
... ordering Domino's pizza
... the fact that 0,5 liter of Ben&Jerry costs 3 pounds
... the squirrels in the park
... Princes Street
... getting nearly all my clothes from Primark
... the fact that everything is so damn cheap in Scotland
... the smalltalking with random people at the busstops
... the mountains
... waking up in the winter to see the tops of the mountains covered in snow
... having so much energy and will to do everything and try everything
... feeling at home in a different country than you're born in
... Heather's cooking
... when Heather leaves pancake-batter out for me in the kitchen and tells me to go crazy
... knowing that I all the time obtain memories, that I'll probably remember forever
... having one of the best year of my life

And probably many more things, which I'll find out when I leave in June. It's going to be so weird leaving your best friends and family in this country, only to just go to another country with your other group of best friends and your other family. But that's not for another few months - until then I will try to appreciate all the things, I'll miss when I leave, and have a GREAT exchange year!
